The short answer
The 2026 Mazda CX-90 is Mazda's three-row SUV, seating seven or eight. Gas models use a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assist: 280 horsepower on regular gas, or 340 on the Turbo S with premium. The CX-90 PHEV plug-in hybrid makes 323 horsepower and drives up to 26 miles on electricity. All-wheel drive is standard, it tows up to 5,000 pounds, and it earned the IIHS 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+. Nine trims range from $39,300 to $58,700 MSRP.

Turbo, Turbo S or PHEV: which CX-90 is right for me?

Short answer
Most families: the 3.3 Turbo. It has 280 horsepower on regular gas and the best price. Tow up to 5,000 lbs or want maximum power: the 3.3 Turbo S (340 hp). Can charge at home and drive short daily trips: the PHEV, with up to 26 electric miles. Then pick a trim; we recommend the 3.3 Turbo Preferred for most families.
  3.3 Turbo 3.3 Turbo S PHEV
Starting MSRP* $39,300 $54,140 $50,695
Engine 3.3L turbo inline-six, 48V mild hybrid High-output 3.3L turbo inline-six, 48V mild hybrid 2.5L four-cylinder + electric motor, 17.8 kWh battery
Horsepower / torque 280 hp / 332 lb-ft 340 hp / 369 lb-ft (premium); 319 hp on regular 323 hp / 369 lb-ft
EPA rating 23 / 28 / 25 mpg 23 / 28 / 25 mpg 56 MPGe; about 26 mpg on gas; 26-mile electric range
Max towing 3,500 lbs (5,000 on Premium Sport with accessories) 5,000 lbs with accessories 3,500 lbs
Fuel Regular Premium recommended Premium recommended + electricity
Seating 7 or 8 7 or 8 7

What does it cost to fuel each one?

An example to make the decision concrete: 12,000 miles a year, regular at $4.00, premium at $4.80 a gallon and home electricity at $0.18 per kWh. For the PHEV we assume about 7,000 of those miles are electric, which takes daily charging. Your numbers will differ.

Engine How it's driven Est. energy cost / year
3.3 Turbo Regular gas, 25 mpg $1,920
3.3 Turbo S Premium gas, 25 mpg $2,304
PHEV, charged daily 7,000 electric miles + 5,000 gas miles $1,681
PHEV, never plugged in Premium gas, about 26 mpg $2,215
Is the PHEV worth it?
Be realistic about it: charged daily, the PHEV saves roughly $239 a year over the 3.3 Turbo in this example, and it costs $7,245 more than the Turbo Preferred (though it comes with seven seats and heated and ventilated second-row seats). It won't pay for itself on fuel. People choose it for quiet electric school runs and commutes, strong 323-hp acceleration and fewer fill-ups. If you can't plug in at home, choose the 3.3 Turbo.

Which 2026 CX-90 trim do I need?

Our honest take
If you carry more than five people at least once a week, or tow more than 1,500 pounds, the CX-90 is the right call. If the third row would mostly stay folded, the 2026 CX-5 saves about $9,000 and is easier to park, and its back seat is roomy. Want CX-90 power and luxury in two rows? Ask about the CX-70.
02  /  Will It Fit My Life?

Real-world fit: third row, car seats, cargo & towing

A three-row SUV is a big decision. Here are straight answers to the questions families ask us most.

Vehicle fit
Who actually fits in the third row?
Third-row legroom is 30.4 inches, with 36.9 inches of headroom. Kids and teens ride comfortably; adults are fine for a trip across town or to dinner. To be fair, the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride have roomier third rows. Climb back there yourself on a test drive.
Families
Does it fit car seats?
Yes. The second row has 39.4 inches of legroom, so rear-facing seats fit without crowding the front. With captain's chairs, older kids can walk to the third row without anyone unbuckling a car seat. Bring your car seats and install them on our lot before you buy.
Vehicle fit
How much cargo space do I get?
About 15 cubic feet behind the third row, enough for groceries or a folded stroller with every seat filled. Fold the third row for about 40 cubic feet (a Costco run or a week of camping gear) or both rows for up to 75.2 cubic feet.
Utility
Can it tow our camper or boat?
Up to 5,000 pounds on the 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport and Turbo S with Mazda genuine towing accessories, which also unlock Towing mode. That covers many small travel trailers and ski boats. Select, Preferred and PHEV models tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Vehicle fit
Will it fit in my garage?
The CX-90 is 201.6 inches long, about 68.5 inches tall and 84.9 inches wide with mirrors. That's about 17 inches longer than a CX-5, so measure a short garage before you buy. Premium Plus trims add a 360 View Monitor that makes tight spaces much easier.
Pacific Northwest
Is it good for Mount Hood and winter trips?
Every CX-90 has all-wheel drive and about 8 inches of ground clearance; Premium Sport and up add Off-Road mode, and the Preferred adds a heated steering wheel and heated second row. Tires still matter most: check ODOT TripCheck and carry chains or traction devices when signs require them.

How the CX-90's key features work

These are the features CX-90 owners ask us to demonstrate most, and how to use them.

Charging and driving the PHEV

01
Plug in at home
Use the included 120-volt cable overnight, or install a 240-volt Level 2 charger to fill the 17.8 kWh battery in about two hours.
02
Start in EV mode
With a charged battery, drive up to 26 miles on electricity alone, enough for most school runs and Beaverton-to-Portland commutes.
03
Let it switch to hybrid
When the battery runs low, the CX-90 PHEV drives as a regular hybrid on gas. You never need to charge to keep driving.
04
Save charge for later
On a road trip, save battery charge for the city at the end of the drive.
05
Use the power outlet
Premium Sport and up have a 1,500-watt outlet, handy for camping gear or tailgating.

More features we demo every day

Premium Sport and up
Captain's chairs & third-row access
With second-row captain's chairs, walk straight through to the third row. With the bench, the second row slides and tilts forward for third-row access.
Preferred and up
Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Wireless on the 12.3-inch display from the Preferred trim up. The screen is controlled mainly with the console knob, which is easy to use without looking. It also responds to touch while CarPlay or Android Auto is running.
All trims
Alexa Built-in
Standard for 2026. Ask for directions, music or smart-home controls by voice. We'll help you link your Amazon account on delivery day.
Premium Sport, Turbo S
Towing mode
With Mazda genuine towing accessories, Towing mode adjusts the drivetrain for a trailer behind you. The rear camera helps you line up the hitch.
Premium Plus trims
360 View Monitor
A bird's-eye camera view that takes the stress out of parking a 201-inch SUV in tight Pearl District garages.
Turbo S, PHEV Premium Plus
Driver Personalization System
Uses a camera to recognize the driver and adjust the seat, mirrors and head-up display, ideal when two parents share the car.
04  /  What To Expect

What to expect at Herzog-Meier Mazda

Buying a car shouldn't feel like a mystery. Here is how each step works at our Beaverton store on SW Tualatin Valley Highway, serving Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard and Portland since 1966. Our team is bilingual: hablamos español.

Test drive
What happens on a test drive?
We start by asking how you'll use the car, then match you to a trim. We'll set up your seat and pair your phone, and you'll drive a route that mixes TV Highway traffic with highway merging. Bring the whole family: climbing into the third row and installing car seats is the best way to judge a three-row SUV. Comparing the Turbo with the PHEV? Drive both in the same visit. Bring your driver's license, plus car seats or gear if you want to test the fit.
Trade-in
How long does a trade-in take?
An in-person appraisal usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including a walkaround and a short drive. Bring your title or loan payoff information, both keys and any service records to speed things up.
Delivery day
What should I expect at delivery?
After paperwork, a team member walks you through your CX-90: phone pairing, wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Alexa Built-in, the MyMazda app, third-row folding, PHEV charging if equipped, and how the safety systems work. Bring your license, proof of insurance and any financing or trade-in documents.
Service
What are service visits like?
Our factory-trained Mazda technicians use genuine Mazda parts, offer online scheduling and send updates through Mazda Digital Service, so you can see what your car needs before you approve it.
05  /  What Ownership Is Like

Living with a 2026 CX-90

Question Answer
Do I need premium gas? Not on the 3.3 Turbo; it's designed for regular. The Turbo S and PHEV recommend premium (the Turbo S makes 319 hp on regular).
What mileage will I get? EPA estimates: 23 / 28 / 25 mpg (city / highway / combined) for the 3.3 Turbo and Turbo S. The PHEV is rated 56 MPGe, about 26 mpg on gas alone.
How far can I go? The 3.3 Turbo carries 18.5 gallons (19.6 on Turbo S). The PHEV's total range is about 490 miles, including up to 26 electric miles.
How often do I need maintenance? Follow Mazda's schedule in the owner's manual. The maintenance monitor reminds you when oil, filter and tire rotation are due, with inspections added at higher mileage.
What does service cost? It depends on the powertrain and mileage interval. Call our service team at (888) 295-0640 for an exact quote, and check our service specials before you book.
What warranty do I get? 3-year/36,000-mile basic and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranties from Mazda. PHEV battery and hybrid components have their own longer warranty; ask us for the Oregon terms.
Is there a tax credit for the PHEV? Not anymore. The federal credit for purchased plug-in vehicles ended September 30, 2025. Ask about current Mazda lease and finance offers instead.

Ownership tips from our service drive

Get a Level 2 charger for the PHEV
A 240-volt home charger fully recharges the PHEV in about two hours, so you start every morning with full electric range. Have an electrician check your panel first.
Think about tires before November
All-wheel drive helps you go; tires help you stop and turn. Big 21-inch wheels look great, but consider winter or all-weather tires for regular mountain trips.
Use the right fuel
The 3.3 Turbo is happy on regular. Turbo S and PHEV owners get their full rated power on premium.
Keep a service record
Servicing at a Mazda dealer keeps a documented history, which supports warranty coverage and resale value.

Common misconceptions

What people assume What's actually true
“The CX-90 is just a bigger CX-9.” It's an all-new design with a turbocharged inline-six or plug-in hybrid, rear-biased all-wheel drive and up to 340 horsepower. The CX-9 had a four-cylinder.
“Every CX-90 needs premium gas.” The 3.3 Turbo is designed for regular. Only the Turbo S and PHEV recommend premium.
“The third row fits adults all day.” It's great for kids and fine for adults on short trips. If adults ride back there daily, compare it with the Palisade or Telluride too.
“The PHEV pays for itself in gas savings.” Usually not. Its value is quiet electric driving and power, and it only works if you charge often.
“The PHEV still gets a federal tax credit.” That credit ended September 30, 2025. Ask about current Mazda lease and finance offers instead.
“Three-row SUVs can't tow much.” The CX-90 tows up to 5,000 pounds on Premium Sport and Turbo S models with Mazda accessories.

2026 Mazda CX-90 FAQ

Tap any question to see the answer.

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 starts at $39,300 MSRP for the 3.3 Turbo Select. The 3.3 Turbo S starts at $54,140, the CX-90 PHEV plug-in hybrid at $50,695, and the top PHEV Premium Plus is $58,700. Mazda's destination and handling charge is $1,645, and premium paint adds $595. MSRP excludes taxes, title, license and dealer fees; dealers set final pricing. Call Herzog-Meier Mazda at (833) 868-4612 for current Beaverton pricing and offers.
Choose the 3.3 Turbo for the best value: 280 horsepower on regular gas and 25 mpg combined. Choose the 3.3 Turbo S for the most power: 340 horsepower on premium fuel and up to 5,000 pounds of towing. Choose the PHEV plug-in hybrid if you can charge at home and drive short daily trips: it goes up to 26 miles on electricity alone and makes 323 horsepower. All three have standard all-wheel drive.
For most families, the 3.3 Turbo Preferred ($43,450 MSRP) is the sweet spot: it adds leather, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, a 12.3-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and parking sensors over the Select. Choose the 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport if you tow up to 5,000 pounds or want captain's chairs, a panoramic moonroof and Bose audio.
The CX-90's third row has 30.4 inches of legroom and 36.9 inches of headroom. It's comfortable for kids and fine for adults on short trips, but the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride offer roomier third rows. Available second-row captain's chairs make it easier to walk back to the third row.
Both. The CX-90 seats up to eight with a second-row bench. Seven-passenger versions with second-row captain's chairs are available on Premium Sport and Premium Plus trims and standard on the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus. PHEV models are offered in seven-passenger configurations.
The 3.3 Turbo is designed for regular 87-octane gas and makes 280 horsepower. The 3.3 Turbo S and the PHEV recommend premium fuel: the Turbo S makes 340 horsepower on premium and 319 on regular, and the PHEV makes 323 horsepower on premium.
EPA estimates for the 2026 Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo and 3.3 Turbo S are 23 city / 28 highway / 25 combined mpg. The CX-90 PHEV is rated 56 MPGe combined using electricity and gas, about 26 mpg combined on gas alone, up to 26 miles of electric-only range and about 490 miles of total range.
On a Level 2 (240-volt) charger, the CX-90 PHEV's 17.8 kWh battery charges in roughly two hours, and Mazda quotes about 1.5 hours from 20% to 80%. On a standard 120-volt household outlet, plan on charging overnight. A portable 120-volt cable is included.
Only if you plug in most days. Driving 12,000 miles a year with about 7,000 of them on electricity, the PHEV costs roughly $239 less a year to fuel than the 3.3 Turbo in our example, which won't pay back the PHEV Preferred's $7,245 higher price on fuel savings alone. People choose the PHEV for quiet electric commuting, 323 horsepower and fewer gas station stops. If you can't charge at home, choose the 3.3 Turbo.
No. The federal clean-vehicle tax credit for purchased EVs and plug-in hybrids ended on September 30, 2025. Ask Herzog-Meier Mazda about current Mazda lease and finance offers on the CX-90 PHEV instead.
The 2026 CX-90 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport and 3.3 Turbo S tow up to 5,000 pounds with Mazda genuine towing accessories. The 3.3 Turbo Select and Preferred and the CX-90 PHEV tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
The CX-90 has about 15 cubic feet behind the third row (14.9 to 15.9 depending on seating), about 40 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 75.2 cubic feet with both rear rows folded.
Yes, with the right tires. Every CX-90 has i-Activ all-wheel drive and about 8 inches of ground clearance, and Premium Sport and higher trims add an Off-Road drive mode, and a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats start at the Preferred trim. For Mount Hood or Santiam Pass, check ODOT TripCheck and carry chains or traction tires when required.
Yes. The 2026 Mazda CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV earned the IIHS 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, the institute's highest rating. Every trim includes radar cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and lane-keeping assistance.
Yes, the Mazda CX-70. It shares the CX-90's design, inline-six and plug-in hybrid powertrains, but has two rows of seats for buyers who want the space and power without a third row.
Gas CX-90s use a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six with Mazda's M Hybrid Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic. The PHEV pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery. All CX-90s have rear-biased i-Activ all-wheel drive.
The 2026 Mazda CX-90 includes Mazda's 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. The PHEV's hybrid battery and components carry their own longer warranty; ask Herzog-Meier Mazda for the exact terms in Oregon.
A product specialist helps you narrow down the right engine and trim, sets up the seat and pairs your phone if you like, and then you drive a route that mixes city traffic with highway merging. Bring the whole family: climbing into the third row and installing car seats is the best way to judge a three-row SUV. Bring your driver's license, plus car seats or gear if you want to test the fit.
An in-person trade-in appraisal at Herzog-Meier Mazda usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including a walkaround and short drive. Bring your title or loan payoff information, both keys, and any service records to speed things up.
